WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for the second season of The Umbrella Academy. Read at your own risk.

The Umbrella Academy season 3 has already been renewed in November 2020 on Netflix. The superhero comedy-drama debuted on the streaming platform in February 2019, followed by a second season in July 2020. There is a huge gap between seasons, so fans shouldn't expect the show is coming back soon.

The Umbrella Academy season 3 began production on February 8, 2021. Filming of the series takes several months to complete, and the current installment is slated to finish in September 2021. Hence, fans can expect the show to return in either Spring or Summer of 2022.

Despite that long wait, fans have been getting updates on what's coming in The Umbrella Academy season 3. For instance, it was revealed in January 2021 that new characters would be introduced in the story, particularly the seven children attending The Sparrow Academy.

These children were born on the same day and adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves (Colm Feore) when the timeline was altered caused by their counterparts, The Umbrella Academy. Both academies were almost identical, but Sparrow is believed to have a better set of children.

Justin Cornwell is set to play the role of the natural-born leader, Marcus. Justin H. Min portrays a different version of Ben, who is now scheming and vicious. Britne Oldford will be Fei, the smartest person in the room, and sees the world in a special way.

Other new cast members include Jake Epstein as the scarred crime-fight Alphonso, Genesis Rodriguez as the romantic dreamer Sloane, Cazzie David as the loner Jayme, and the Existential Dread Inducing Psykronium Cube as the telekinetic cube Christopher.

The Umbrella Academy season 3 picks up the huge The Sparrow Academy revelation in the season 2 finale. After returning to the future, they learned that their actions in the past come with dire consequences. Everything changes now that they've figured Sir Reginald is alive, and another academy exists.

After meddling in Dallas, they created a new timeline wherein The Umbrella Academy doesn't exist. After telling Sir Reginald the mistakes he made in the future, he adopted different children, which leads to the existence of The Sparrow Academy.

The Umbrella Academy season 3 may now feature an alternate version of the academy. Since Sir Reginald chose to adopt different children instead of the original members, the new timeline will bring alternate versions of the Hargreeves children.
