Meghan Markle admitted in her tell-all interview that she had thoughts of suicide while trapped in her life as a working royal and that she did not get the support she needed for her mental health struggles, despite telling the palace about it.

But Princess Diana's royal biographer, Andrew Morton, finds the claims baffling because Prince Harry has a lot of access to specialists who could help Meghan with her mental health struggles.

In an interview with the talk show, Lorraine, Morton said that he finds it sad to learn that Meghan was suffering in anguish and that she was ignored for it. Morton rationalized that it was possible for some members of the royal family staff to refuse to talk about mental illness because of a generation gap, implying that this kind of struggle isn't normally discussed among older people.

However, Morton also said that he's aware of some members of the royal family getting psychological counseling when it was not the norm before. For instance, Princess Margaret, the queen's sister, had sought the help of a therapist when her marriage was breaking up.

Queen Elizabeth also had some help from a professional when she faced a horrific year in the early 1990s. Morton said that the queen had someone help her with relaxation and breathing techniques.

Morton also said that Prince Harry could actually have a professional therapist on his speed dial. His godmother, Julia Samuel, is a famous psychotherapist in London.

Meghan Markle confessed in her TV interview with Oprah Winfrey that she had bouts of depression and could not be trusted to be left alone because she could take her own life. The Duchess of Sussex said that when she informed Buckingham Palace's HR department, she was told they could not get a therapist for her because she is not a paid employee of the royal family.

Her admission of her mental health struggles received praises from the public, including the White House, as she was helping break down the stigma against those experiencing an emotional crisis. However, Buckingham Palace's denial of mental health care received a lot of criticisms.

Meanwhile, Meghan's estranged father, Thomas Markle, said that it alarmed him to learn that his daughter had been struggling emotionally. He accused Harry of failing to protect the Duchess of Sussex and said that as a father, he could have protected her if he only knew what she was going through.

The elder Markle said that he loves his daughter very much and that he will be there as her support if the Duchess of Sussex needed him. However, he said that his daughter has "ghosted" him and they've been estranged for almost three years.
