The Witcher season 2 has officially wrapped up filming just recently. Production for the second installment of the fantasy drama faced several delays, mostly due to the COVID-19 pandemic and lead star Henry Cavill sustaining on-set injuries. Despite that, the series was able to complete all the works.

The Witcher season 2 has been renewed even before the first installment premiered on Netflix. But, while the renewal announcement was made earlier than other shows, the production has met a lot of complications along the way.

Filming for the second outing took longer than expected, leaving more than a year gap from season 1. The good thing is that the cast and the crew wrapped up everything on April 2, 2021 and the post-production work is the only thing that must be done.

Now that The Witcher season 2 concluded filming, fans will get more updates on what lies ahead. The entire plot is yet to be seen, but it looks like there are flashback scenes coming. Reportedly, two actors were set to play younger versions of Cavill's Geralt of Rivia and Kim Bodnia's Vesemir.

According to a recent report from Redanian Intelligence, Alexander Squires and James Baxter will be portraying young Geralt and Vesemir, respectively. It can be recalled that in season 1, the younger version of Cavill's character was played by Tristan Ruggeri.

This time, a slightly older version of Geralt will be featured. This is something that was teased in the new flashbacks, which also hinted at the presence of the mysterious character Deglan (Tamer Hassan), who will be part of the animated The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf.

Vesemir is the oldest and most experienced Wicther, who serves as a mentor to Geralt. He is an important part of the latter's storyline and his arrival is a huge event in The Witcher season 2. He is going to help his mentee when he brings Ciri (Freya Allan) to Kaer Mohen.

The upcoming installment is diving deeper into the backstory of Geralt and his relationship with Vesemer during his younger years. There'll be several flashbacks, which will further show how Cavill's character ends up to whether he is right now.

As for Vesemir's backstory, it may not be fully addressed here. Instead, the story will be delivered in The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, which is set to premiere on Netflix this 2021. Yet, it is still unknown whether or not Baxter will be voicing the character in the animated film.

The Witcher season 2 is expected to arrive either in late 2021 or early 2022.
