IU and Lee Joon Gi both starred in the South Korean drama Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo back in 2016. Until now, fans are still hoping that the series would be given a second season considering how it ended. Now, it looks like the two stars are open to reprising their roles again if the story will continue.

In Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo, IU played the character of Go Ha Jin, a 25-year-old 21st-century woman who was transported back to the Goryeo Dynasty and woke up in the body of Hae Soo. Initially, she fell in love with the 8th Prince Wang Wook (Kang Ha Neul) and later with the 4th Prince Wang So (Lee Joon Gi).

On Saturday, April 17, the actor hosted a Naver NOW program called DREAM to celebrate his birthday. The singer-songwriter/actress made a surprise phone call, where she congratulated him. They also talked about their friendship and the 2016 drama they both starred in.

Lee Joon Gi shared that he's been receiving a lot of questions from fans regarding the second season of Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo, where Hae Soo and Wang Soo reunite in the modern world. The actor said that it is difficult to make it happen, mostly because of the schedules of other actors and actresses.

Still, he asked IU, whose real name is Lee Ji Eun, if she'll be interested in appearing in season 2. She said that if "the conditions are right" for everyone to gather together, "there is no reason not to do it." However, she pointed out that it still depends on the availability of others.

The two also talked about the unreleased final scene of Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo, which was filmed but wasn't aired on-screen because the series changed its direction. The actor praised his co-star as she showed the "most amazing emotional acting that day."

IU praised Lee Joon Gi's acting on that particular scene, as well. She said that she felt sad they were able to show it to fans, where Hae Soo and Wang Soo finally met in the modern world. She noted that the actor's "visuals were amazing."

The actress shared how Wang Soo looks in the modern-day scene, wherein he's dressed in a suit and has short hair. She added that "it was really a shame" the scene where he handed Hae Soo a handkerchief didn't make it on the television as "fans would have gone wild if that had aired."

Meanwhile, Lee Joon Gi was nominated for the Best Actor category for his role in Flower of Evil for the 57th Baeksang Arts Awards, which will be held in May 2021. IU, on the other hand, made her comeback in March 2021 with her fifth album titled LILAC.
