Sarah Drew's April Kepner is confirmed to be returning in the upcoming Grey's Anatomy season 17 episode 14. The character was a series regular back in season 14 of the medical drama and she is the ex-wife of Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams).
April and Jackson had an on-and-off relationship, though they were able to rekindle their friendship eventually. Now, Drew's character is coming back in Grey's Anatomy season 17 episode 14 and the reason for her return is tied to her ex-husband.
Titled "Look Up Child," this particular episode sees Jackson traveling to Seattle for a very personal reason. According to the synopsis, Williams' character will be visiting his father who sets him on the right path and this is where April shows up in the picture.
Although it remains unclear how the two will reunite in Grey's Anatomy season 17 episode 14, there is a possibility that Jackson visits April before or after his journey. It's also likely that his ex-wife is involved in some form in terms of his reunion with his father.
It should be noted that April played an important part the last time Jackson went to visit his father. However, the two are at a different point in their life now and a lot of things have changed since the last time they saw each other.
Some of the preview photos of Grey's Anatomy season 17 episode 14 featured April and Jackson together. Most of the episode may revolve around the former couple and it could explore where she was and what's she's been doing in her life ever since she left.
Drew's character is one of the many former characters who made an appearance again in the current installment of the medical drama. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), in particular, has been seeing the people close in her life who were long dead.
At the moment, Meredith's health condition remains in question. While she's seemingly getting better, there is no clear indication that she's waking up soon. This causes a huge concern for the doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.
One more episode is coming before "Look Up Child" and this will focus on Meredith's current status. In the promo of episode 13, she can be seen having a serious conversation with her late husband Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) and she told him she wants to stay with him on the beach.
Grey's Anatomy season 17 episode 14 airs on Thursday, May 6, on ABC.
