Amazon customers can pay for stuff at Whole Foods stores in the Seattle area using their palm prints.

The company says the system, Amazon One, will be available at the Whole Foods store on Madison Broadway. It will later be introduced at seven Seattle stores.

A customer's palm signature can be linked to their accounts - such as Amazon's cashierless Amazon Go stores, where customers can shop and walk without the standard checkout process.

According to the company, a sign-up process takes about a minute. Customers use their credit or debit cards and their palms over a reader. Bingo. You're done, says Amazon.

In 2019, Amazon received a patent for Amazon One. The system was first used last fall at the company's Amazon Go stores in Seattle. Amazon One has also been expanded to some of its other stores, including Amazon Books, Amazon 4-Star and Amazon Pop-up.

According to Amazon, the palm scanner has multiple security measures in place to protect shoppers' identities. Information is stored separately from customers' other details.

Existing customers already registered with Amazon One at different locations will need to use their cards at the Whole Foods store to activate the service there, Amazon said.

Customers can link their Amazon One ID to their Amazon account to have their Prime membership discount applied to future Whole Foods Market purchases made using Amazon One.
