Prodigal Son season 2 episode 13 is coming next week and it will serve as the official series finale. Recently, Fox confirmed that the procedural crime drama won't be coming back for another installment. There have been several factors as to why the show was canceled.

Prodigal Son season 2 episode 13 comes with the title "The Last Weekend" and it will continue to follow Malcolm Bright (Tom Payne) and the NYPD is searching for the serial killer. This has been one of the biggest storylines over the past few episodes.

According to the synopsis of Prodigal Son season 2 episode 13, "the search for a serial killer known as 'The Woodsman' might help the NYPD find one of their own." It's yet to be seen whether this plot will be wrapped up properly or some loose ends might be left in the story.

The cancelation of the series came just recently, with Fox confirming that season 3 is not happening. Many were shocked by the decision of the network, though there are, reportedly, certain factors on why the show is not returning for one more installment.

One of the major reasons has something to do with the ratings. Reportedly, the numbers declined in the second installment compared to what was seen in season 1. It was also said that the addition of Catherine Zeta-Jones as Dr. Vivian Capshaw didn't boost the figures.

It is uncertain if the series will eventually be picked up by another network or platform. For now, Prodigal Son season 2 episode 13 is going to be the last one for the procedural crime drama. As for the story itself, danger is coming for almost everyone since there's a serial killer on the loose.

For Malcolm, he's been trying so hard to battle the demons on his head and his dark past often interferes with his work. His father, Martin Whitly (Michael Sheen), is one of the major reasons why he badly wants to escape his life before.

There is a question if the two will reconcile or Malcolm will remain estranged from Martin. His father did a lot of horrible things to people, something that Payne's character does not want to do. He wants to be different from him, but he knows how hard to get away from his past.

In addition to Payne and Whitly, the series also stars Lou Diamond Phillips as Gil Arroyo, Halston Sage as Ainsley Whitly, Aurora Perrineau as Dani Powell, Frank Harts as JT Tarmel, Keiko Agena as Edrisa Tanaka, and Bellamy Young as Jessica Whitly.

Prodigal Son season 2 episode 13 airs on Tuesday, May 18, on Fox.
