Later on, it was revealed that Jefferson isn't really dead but was in a bad condition. He needs to get better and recover quickly so he could help his family and others from whatever Tobias is planning. There is going to be a major stand-off between the titular character and the major adversary.
The good thing is that Jefferson was able to restore his power, which will be a huge help to defeat Tobias for good. Also, there could be another unexpected death in Black Lightning season 4 episode 13, prompting the titular character to go rogue and kill this Big Bad.
After this showdown, Jefferson may decide to retire and live an ordinary life with his family. This is something that he's contemplating at the start of the final installment. He may also choose a successor -- someone who could be the protector of Freeland.
Meanwhile, Marvin Jones III has something to say about the ending of the superhero drama. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor shared what he feels now that the series is coming to an end, noting that he's "very satisfied and happy with the conclusion."
And even though the series is wrapping up the story of Jefferson, other characters might be given their own spotlight in the future. For instance, there have been talks about the potential Painkiller spin-off, with Jordan Calloway reprising his character.
