Meghan Markle is named the "most iconic royal" in a new poll, beating her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, and the rest of the female members of the royal family.
The poll was from a fashion brand, PrettyLittleThing, who based the data on the outfits and looks of the royal family women. According to reports, Markle and Middleton had the greatest number of online searches in the last year, as royal fans wonder about the clothes, shoes and accessories of these famous women.
The data, however, revealed that searches for Meghan Markle increased by 100 percent in 2020, while searches for Middleton was logged at 84 percent. Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, came in the third followed by Princess Anne and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall.
According to the analyst, the results are a testament to Markle and Middleton becoming style icons. However, there were about 148,550 hits for Markle's outfit picks compared to 145,400 for Middleton.
Anything that these two royal women wear usually sells out quickly, boosting a designer or brand's profile. For instance, Markle's "Raising the Future" shirt, which royal fans saw on Prince Harry's documentary, has increased in orders and has kept the designer, Wales' Carrie-Anne Roberts, going for weeks. The designer told BBC that she has been receiving orders for the shirts from as far away as Australia and Hong Kong.
Roberts said it's a nice boost for her small business and she didn't realize that the Duchess of Sussex was aware of the shirt. She is delighted that Markle chose to display her slogan because it is a "simple but strong statement" about raising kids.
Meanwhile, British style editor Natasha Henson said that Middleton's style is quite popular with women as well because it's comfortable and stylish. The Duchess of Cambridge might be a prominent figure but she still likes to wear non-expensive, relaxed but fashionable pieces. Middleton also carries her style with a subtle confidence and picks her clothes carefully as someone who is always seen as a positive role model.
Middleton displayed her understated fashion sense during her royal tour of Scotland with Prince William. Fans, however, noticed that she wore the same type of affordable shoes as her sister-in-law in one outing -- a pair of Veja trainers. Meghan Markle also has a pair of these sneakers which she wore for the Invictus Games and for her daily walks.
