Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced the birth of their second child - a girl named Lilibet "Lili" Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.

The Duchess of Sussex delivered the child Friday, June 4, at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, California.

In an official statement late Sunday on the Sussexes' website the couple said the newborn weighed 7 lbs, 11 oz. Mother and child are at home in their Santa Barbara mansion.

"We were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili. She is more than we could have ever imagined," the statement read. "We remain grateful for the love and prayers we've felt from across the globe. Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family."

Harry and Markle named their daughter after her great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II whose name among senior family members is Lilibet. The child's second name, Diana, is in honor of her late grandmother Princess Diana.

Lili is Prince Harry and Markle's second child. Their firstborn, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, is now 2 years old.

"The duke and duchess thank you for your warm wishes and prayers as they enjoy this special time as a family," the statement continues.

The couple asked well-wishers to send support to, or learn more about Girls Inc., Harvest Home, CAMFED or Myna Mahila Foundation.

Other members of the royal family celebrated with Harry and Markle.

"Congratulations to Harry, Meghan and Archie on the arrival of baby Lilibet Diana. Wishing them all well at this special time," Prince Charles, Harry's father and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, tweeted.

Despite an alleged rift with his brother Prince William, he too, together with wife Kate Middleton were "delighted by the happy news of the arrival of baby Lili." Buckingham Palace said Queen Elizabeth was happy.

U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson tweeted: "Many congratulations to The Duke & Duchess of Sussex on the birth of their daughter." The Labour leader, Sir Keir Starmer, also offered his congratulations and said the announcement was "wonderful news."

Tessy Ojo, the chief executive of the Diana Award, set up to continue the legacy of Harry's mother, said the charity was "delighted to welcome another grandchild of Diana, Princess of Wales."

Prince Harry, 36 and Markle, 39, first announced they were expecting a daughter during their interview with Oprah Winfrey in the special aired in March, Oprah with Meghan and Harry: A CBS Primetime Special.

"To have any child, any one or two, would be amazing. But to have a boy and then a girl, what more could you ask for?" Prince Harry said. "Now we've got our family, the four of us and our two dogs." When asked if they're planning on more than two children, Harry said, "Done," with Markle clarifying, "Two is it."

Markle said she had a miscarriage in the summer of 2020. The couple announced they were stepping back from royal duties in January 2020 and now live in Montecito, near Santa Barbara in southern California.

Lili is Her Majesty's 11th great-grandchild and is eighth in line to the throne. Prince Andrew drops a spot to ninth, BBC said. She is the most senior royal in the current line of succession born outside of the UK - making her eligible to become U.S. president.

However, just like her older brother, Archie, she is not entitled to a royal title - either a princess or a Her Royal Highness, until her grandfather, Prince Charles, becomes King.
