"Smallville" star Allison Mack received a sentence of three years in prison for charges of manipulating women into becoming sex slaves for the NXIVM group leader Keith Raniere.
Mack has already pleaded guilty and is expected to get credit for cooperating. She is responsible for helping the cult leader create a secret society of allegedly brainwashed women branded with his initials.
After receiving her sentence, the 38-year-old actor issued a written letter in which she renounced Raniere.
According to The Guardian, she said she would forever regret the choices she had made and admitted she was full of "remorse and guilt." Her devotion to the alleged self-improvement guru was the "biggest mistake and the greatest regret" of her life.
Mack also apologized to those she brought to NXIVM. "I am sorry I ever exposed you to the nefarious and emotionally abusive schemes of a twisted man," she wrote.
"From the deepest part of my heart and soul, I am sorry."
Forbes said the sentence was reduced from the usual minimum of 14 years in prison based on sentencing guidelines. It was imposed by U.S. District Judge Nicholas Garaufis and handed down in a Brooklyn federal court.
Mack has to report for prison by late September and pay a $20,000 fine.
Mack faced a maximum 18 years after she pleaded guilty in 2019 to blackmailing two NXIVM women members.
Forbes first raised the questions about the mysterious group in 2003. Seagram billionaire Edgar Bronfman Sr. believed it was a cult. His two daughters, Sara and Clare, used to be members.
Clare donated $2 million to the group, though she denied the claim at the time. She received a sentence of about seven years in prison for her role.
The prosecutors claimed NXIVM could not have operated if not for her money. Raniere's group described itself as a "multilevel marketing group" offering self-help classes - but something dark was behind it.
It was a secretive, all-women group - forcing members to follow diets, have sex with
Raniere and even be branded with his initials. Women who tried to leave were blackmailed with threats of the release of private information and nude photographs.
Raniere has been convicted of sex trafficking and received 120 years in prison.
