"Attack on Titan" manga has officially ended, while the anime's final season is now on its second cour. As fans are now reeling on the finale, some question how Levi Ackerman manages to stay alive.

"Attack on Titan" has seen a number of deaths from the major to minor characters. It is not afraid to kill off even the fan-favorite ones, so one of Hajime Isayama's editors, Shintaro Kawakubo, reveals why Levi did not die.

According to Comicbook, the mangaka initially wanted to kill off Levi, but he later changed his mind. He was supposed to have a different story ending, and it was one of the options for his character.

"Isayama said it is okay to have a story where Levi dies," Kawakubo said.

Anyhow, he believed it should not happen. He often held a meeting with Isayama every time he wanted to kill off a character to talk if this death was necessary or meaningful.

So, when they talked about Levi's supposed death, the manga creator himself did not see any justifiable reason to say goodbye to humanity's strongest soldier.

"In Levi's face, Isayama reconsidered his decision," he said.

This is why Levi has survived the "Attack on Titan" finale despite the belief that he will die. Anyhow, he does not come unscathed.

He was already on the verge of death, gravely injured during his fight with Zeke, and sustained major injuries. Levi did not mind it all and just continued the battle to bring Erwin's vision forward.

Meanwhile, talking about the anime's manga adaptation, Tetsuya Kinoshita, the anime's producer, admitted they could not adapt its entire story and feature it all on the small screen, CBR noted.

Though he said before that they would animate it all, at the time, he did not know how long the manga would be. He, too, had no idea if it would be realistic to animate the whole series.

Now that the anime is almost complete, he swears to do his best until the very end of the series. He also expressed his gratefulness for the franchise's fans around the world - saying he is reading all the messages they sent.

These notes give him courage as the anime continuously grows. As he feels they all share this time together, Kinoshita thanks everyone for their support.

"Attack on Titan" Season 4 is now available for streaming on Hulu, Crunchyroll and Funimation, while its second cour will release sometime in 2022.
