Oppo debuted its latest Find N foldable phone on Wednesday, the second day of its "Inno Day" event, after teasing it last week.
The new phone is a tad smaller than competing foldable devices like Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold line, which will be available only in China starting on Dec. 23.
The Find N is similar to the Z Fold in appearance, but it features a 5.49-inch exterior display and a 7.1-inch inner screen. Samsung's phone, on the other hand, features a front-facing 6.2-inch screen that expands to a 7.6-inch display when opened.
Oppo's first foldable is noteworthy for its comparatively luxurious feel rather than its look. The Find N's hinge has a "water-drop" design, which allows the phone to fold more evenly when closed. This means that when the screen is folded, not only is there no wedge or gap, but there is also a far less obvious crease while using the inner display.
According to Oppo, the Find N has a crease that is "up to 80% less noticeable" than other folding devices, according to testing lab TUV. I used the Find N function briefly, and the assertion appeared to be correct. The crease on the Find N is not only tougher to detect from any angle, but it's also harder to discern by touch when compared to the Z Flip 3 and Z Fold 2.
The rest of the Find N's specs are standard for a 2021 Android flagship. The Snapdragon 888 processor is included, as well as up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. The main camera has 50 megapixels and uses the same Sony IMX766 sensor as the OnePlus 9 Pro and Oppo Find X3 Pro, and it is accompanied by a 16-megapixel ultrawide and a 13-megapixel 2x telephoto.
The battery has a capacity of 4,500mAh and can be charged at a rate of 33W through a SuperVOOC connection or 15W wirelessly. In addition, there is 10W reverse wireless charging and standard Qi support. The power button houses a fingerprint sensor.
According to the company, utilizing the SuperVOOC wired charging, the phone and its 4,500-mAh battery can charge from zero to 55% in 30 minutes and from zero to 100%in 70 minutes.
Although the Find N is not IP68-rated for water and dust protection, Oppo states that it "does go through rigorous water-resistance and durability testing to ensure the device can easily cope with things like sweat, moisture, and light drizzle that are regularly encountered in everyday usage scenarios."
