Fans are now starting to worry for Jung Hae-in over the "Snowdrop" controversy. After his 2020 K-drama "A Piece of Your Mind" ended in no time, would the same thing happen again with the new JTBC series?
"Snowdrop" continuously faces backlash over the alleged distortion of historical facts. With that said, many fear for Jung Hae-in as this controversy may ruin his career.
This is not the first time that the 33-year-old star has done a controversial project. To recall, when he did the tvN drama "A Pierce of Your Mind" in 2020, it was cut short due to the sluggish story, AllKpop noted.
The show only had 12 episodes, four episodes short of the original plan. The show ended with only a 1.2% rating nationwide, starting with the premiere episode's 2.4% viewer rating.
The second episode quickly dropped to a 1.2% rating, showing a dramatic change. The drama, reportedly, did not surpass the low viewer rating and even experienced humiliation after receiving the highest rating with its first episode.
Anyhow, Jung Hae-in managed to pull himself again up with the success of his new drama, "D.P." Sadly, the same thing might happen again in "Snowdrop."
The show may be axed earlier than expected due to the heavy criticisms. With his poor drama choices, netizens claimed it might affect his career. One fan said he was ruining his life, while another suggested he should be careful in choosing his next project.
"Snowdrop" is now facing serious backlash, even getting 200,000 signatories from a Blue House petition to cancel the show, per Pinkvilla. Some believe the show distorts the historical narrative and facts that hurts the public's sentiments.
The show's sponsors even started to withdraw their support, admitting they wanted to be associated with its main stars, BLACKPINK's Jisoo and Jung Hae-in, but not with the backlash.
So, they have decided to stop supporting the drama. Some are even pulling out their products from the series.
Despite the worsening issue, JTBC and Disney Plus are yet to release an official statement to address the criticisms. Jung Hae-in and Jisoo are also yet to break their silence about it.
Fans who are continuously supporting the show are hoping that Disney Plus will continue to air the series on its platform, knowing it is a private streaming service. Some fear that with the civilians and government's constraints, JTBC may end its telecast of "Snowdrop."
