Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced Wednesday that his office will conduct an investigation into GoFundMe following its decision to discontinue a fundraising effort to assist the "Freedom Convoy" in Canada.

Paxton stated that they will look into possible violations of the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act. He added that GoFundMe's decision to restrict the protests' fundraising campaign "should raise red flags" for anyone who uses the donation platform.

Numerous Texans donated to GoFundMe in solidarity with Canadian truckers who are protesting vaccine mandates, he said in a statement to Fox News Digital.

Eric Schmitt, Missouri's attorney general, is also investigating the company, accusing it of attempting to silence the Freedom Convoy.

"Today, my Office launched an official investigation into GoFundMe's efforts to silence the Freedom Convoy," Schmitt said.

Outside of Ottowa, the protest is spreading as well. Protest convoys are forming in other parts of Canada, the United States, Europe, and New Zealand.

GoFundMe could not be reached for comment on the new investigations immediately. The company withheld $10 million in donations intended for protesters in Ottawa.

On Friday, GoFundMe removed the Freedom Convoy's donation page, claiming it violated its terms of service.

The company's website has since reverted to its original position and will automatically refund donations to the truckers organization protesting Canadian pandemic restrictions.

However, politicians have pledged to investigate the website's initial plans for handling donations to truckers.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced Saturday morning that he and the state's attorney general will launch their own inquiry on GoFundMe for shutting down a fundraiser for the Canadian truckers taking part in the so-called "Freedom Convoy."

"The crowd-funding platform's integrity has been called into question following the removal of a multimillion-dollar fundraising campaign for the Canadian truckers," Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the White House warned Wednesday that truckers obstructing US-Canada border crossings risk harming the auto industry and agriculture, as Ottawa urged an end to the 13-day protest against coronavirus mandates.

The Freedom Convoy 2022 began as a protest against a Canadian vaccination requirement for cross-border truckers, but has evolved into a rallying cry against Canadian public health policies.

It has grown in popularity among Republicans in the United States, including former President Donald Trump.

Donald Trump Jr., the former president's eldest son, has urged all Republican attorneys general to investigate GoFundMe's actions. Florida announced its intention to conduct an investigation on Saturday.
