MAPPA finally drops a new update about the much-awaited "Yuri on Ice: Ice Adolescence" movie. Almost six years after the anime ended and five years following the film's announcement, all eyes are still on the movie adaptation's release.

"Yuri on Ice" was one of the best anime released in 2016. Hence, fans were all looking forward to seeing "Yuri on Ice: Ice Adolescence," but would this film still see the light of the day after the long wait?

Thankfully, the franchise officially released an update about the film on its official website in Japan. The film is still in the works, though its studio has yet to develop an official release date.

The announcement revealed the film aimed to enrich its content further. It also liked to apologize to everyone eagerly waiting for the film.

It, then, promised to challenge its entire staff to deliver their "unwavering love for skating" as a movie. Of course, the update came with a visual that showed Viktor in the front and center.

Comicbook noted it was for the fifth anniversary of the anime, though the milestone wouldn't happen until the fall. By the looks of it, the franchise wanted to hype the fandom for the upcoming "Yuri on Ice: Ice Adolescence."

However, Looper revealed it is hard to determine who would be part of the movie as Mappa is yet to announce its main plot or focus. Sure, it has already dropped a trailer featuring Viktor, who fans see in the anime, though with longer hair.

However, Viktor has officially become a coach from a usual competitor in the series. The film's title also alludes to feature "younger characters," thus adolescence.

So, it seems to show that the movie will be a prequel that will tell the story of a young Viktor before he manages to build a strong relationship with Yuri. Anyhow, fans shall only take these assumptions with a grain of salt until MAPPA confirms its official synopsis.

With that being said, fans can't be sure if the white-haired skater that the trailer features is indeed Viktor and not only he's look alike. If the film happens to be a sequel and not a prequel, as the evidence seems to indicate, then it may not pick up where the anime left off and tell a different story. It may feature new characters to introduce and love when "Yuri on Ice: Ice Adolescence" finally drops.
