ENA's new drama "Extraordinary Attorney Woo" is continuously gaining traction. As many people start watching the series, some wonder what the connection of the whale, a reoccurring theme in the show, is in the lead star, Woo Young Woo (Park Eun Bin)?
"Extraordinary Attorney Woo" tells the story of Woo Young Woo, a lawyer with an autism spectrum disorder who works at a huge law firm. The series shows her growth as she tries to solve cases with her incredible memory and critical thinking.
Despite that, she still finds it hard to empathize and learn complex emotions as she does her best to be accepted by society. In the show, fans notice that Woo Young Woo is fond of whales.
A YouTuber explained, via AllKpop, that Woo Young Woo's love for whales is maybe like how kids like dinosaurs because of their strength and size. It just shows their desire to be big and strong, like dinosaurs.
So, in Woo Young Woo's case, she may love whales for the same reason. The YouTuber added Park Eun Bin's role would usually talk about her past when she went through difficulties and limitations because of her condition.
So, she may be fond of whales because they're not limited and can freely swim in the ocean. The whale can also be seen as Woo Young Woo as she tries to navigate life on her own, freely and safely swimming into society with the protection she has been receiving from Hanbada, which means "one ocean."
Meanwhile, "Extraordinary Attorney Woo" is continuously increasing its popularity and has now scored an average nationwide rating of 9.569%. It just breaks its own record of highest viewership ratings achieved by any program in ENA history, per Soompi.
It has also topped Netflix's weekly viewership chart of non-English TV shows, Inquirer cited. The show marked 23.9 million hours of viewing for the week of July 4 to 10, leading the streaming giant's official top 10 list for non-English TV programs on the service.
It also made it on the top 10 list of the most-watched non-English TV shows in 12 countries and topped the rankings in three nations, including South Korea and Taiwan. In addition, it became the second Korean-made TV series that's simultaneously streamed on a local TV channel and on Netflix to top the official viewership chart after "Business Proposal."
"Extraordinary Attorney Woo" airs every Wednesday and Thursday on ENA. Its episode can also be seen on Netflix.
