This new mission is part of Mitaka's trial to join the devil hunter club. However, it looks like the hunt will only make things messy in "Chainsaw Man" Chapter 100.
Denji is yet to make his appearance in the first two weeks of the manga's return. Of course, fans have been waiting for him to finally enter the scene, but the creator Tatsuki Fujimoto is maybe waiting for the right time for the protagonist's grand entrance.

After their bonding, the War Devil started to live inside Mitaka, so they now shared the same body. The War Devil needed to use Mitaka's mind and body to sneak around the school, believing Chainsaw Man was there.
The War Devil had already set the mind of Mitaka that they needed to find Denji, build enough arsenals and go to war against the former. They had already killed the student council president and a teacher, so they were serious about this mission.
The War Devil wanted to turn as many humans into weapons to go to a full war against Denji. "Chainsaw Man" Chapter 100 will drop on Tuesday, July 26.
