A royal commentator notices a significant change in Kate Middleton's fashion choices that looks far different from the style many used to praise. Prince William's wife now seems to opt for more expensive pieces from her humble but on-point style.

Columnist Daniela Elser claimed Kate Middleton had worn clothes that cost as much as £48,000 in the last 100 days, marking a dramatic change in her wardrobe. By the looks of it, she's now "seamlessly" pairing high street outfits with high-end pieces, bending toward the much more costly.

Express noted that the journalist highlighted the Duchess of Cambridge's choice to wear a dress from Zara after her royal wedding in 2011. She described it as the "perfect blend of the accessible and the aspirational," proving that the royal life hadn't changed her as a person.

But, it looks like her fashion choices have now significantly changed. She said the future queen's fashion choices shift is "a bit disquieting," as she now chooses more top-tier labels.

Elser revealed this change brought a "certain sense of disappointment," knowing what set her apart from the royal status quo for over a decade seemed to have disappeared. That said, this move spelled danger for Kate Middleton as it would make her "less relatable and more of a remote figure."

She added, via Good to Know, that the shift, plus opting for more expensive clothing, showed the change in Prince William and his wife for the past year after they had taken on more royal duties. It might have indicated the repositioning of their images, from being "plucky young uns" the becoming the future king and queen.

However, Elser warned that this change could get back to Kate Middleton in the long run. She explained that it took the mother-of-three a long way to make her "uniquely relatable" in a way that no royal WAG had done before.

Hence, making her look like an out-of-reach, super-rich figure could tear down those gains and efforts. She continued the danger in this move after working hard to create an image that the Cambridges are affable, normal royals who are trying to transform The Firm from being too grand to a more modest one.

So, Elser explained that at a time when the U.K. is amid a cost-of-living crisis, seeing Kate Middleton wearing $100,000 worth of designer clothes could be seen as a "dangerous and ill-conceived move." She might no longer be the royal who was once a breath of fresh air for being a relatable duchess.
