Song Hye Kyo's new K-drama, "The Glory," may have been a success, but its production company, Studio Dragon, experiences a fall in its stock price. As expected, Song Joong Ki's ex-wife is now getting everyone's attention for her new series, but the same thing can't be said for its producer.
Studio Dragon's stock fell for three days in a row despite its show, "The Glory," experiencing success. The Song Hye Kyo-led series is ranked No. 6 worldwide on Netflix.
AllKpop noted that the studio's subordinate company produced the show, but Analysts believed the market is responding more to China's ban on Korean content than individual projects' success. The company's stock already rose to over 10 percent, hoping China would lift its ban on Korean shows.
However, experts advised that investors should "approach China's momentum conservatively." An insider said they should assume that the ban is still in effect until the Chinese broadcasting networks start to air Korean content.
Meanwhile, talking about "The Glory," the show has been a hit since it dropped on December 30. It's now ranked No. 6 worldwide in Netflix's TV show category and No. 5 globally on New Year's Day, per FlixPatrol, which monitors global VOD charts and streaming ratings.
Aside from the high ratings, the show is also receiving a lot of positive comments, especially Song Hye Kyo's stellar acting.
"The Glory" follows the story of a woman who had become soulless due to bullying and school violence she experienced when she was young. Now that she's all grown up, it has become her life's purpose to exact her revenge against her bullies.
Song Hye Kyo left his sweet persona to play the role of Moon Dong Eun. From being the goddess of Korean rom-coms and dramas, she has become a heartless and vindictive woman in this new revenge series.
It's far different from her much-loved roles in "Full House," "Encounter," and "Descendants of the Sun" with her ex-husband, Song Joong Ki. In fact, the show's writer, Kim Eun Sook, said fans would never see the Song Hye Kyo they used to know in "The Glory."
"When I read the script, I felt that this was exactly what I was looking for," the actress said about doing the show, per PhilStar. She added that it was the exact genre and character she wanted to do in her career, revealing she always had the thirst to do a project like this.
The second part of "The Glory" will be out in March.
