A day after tens of thousands of his supporters stormed government buildings in the Brazilian capital, former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, according to his wife, was taken with abdominal pain to a hospital in Florida.

Michelle Bolsonaro stated on Instagram on Monday that her husband was being monitored due to abdominal pain.

The former president experienced occasional stomach pain after being stabbed in 2018.

His condition was described as "not worrying" by a family-close source, according to Reuters.

About ten days ago, Bolsonaro traveled from Brazil to the U.S. Last week, he declined to participate in the transfer of authority to President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

He has reportedly been staying at a residence owned by a professional mixed-martial arts fighter in the United States since arriving roughly 48 hours before President Lula's inauguration.

U.S. President Joe Biden is under pressure from members of his own party to deport Bolsonaro.

According to U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, the US has received "no official request" from the Brazilian government regarding Bolsonaro's visa.

"Bolsonaro should not be in Florida," Democratic Representative Joaquin Castro SAID. "The United States should not be a refuge for this authoritarian who has inspired domestic terrorism in Brazil. He should be sent back to Brazil."

Another Democrat in Congress, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, urged the US to "cease granting refuge to Bolsonaro in Florida" in a tweet.

On Sunday, Bolsonaro supporters managed to get past armed forces security measures and into key locations for the three institutions of government, including the legislative building, the Supreme Court, and the Planalto Presidential Palace.

His supporters maintain that the election was rigged and refuse to accept that he lost his bid for reelection. Some of his most ardent fans have openly called for a military coup to restore him to power, and others are seeking to sow mayhem by committing violent crimes and destruction in an effort to provoke a military response.

President Lula called the incidents "barbaric," and the Bolsonaro supporters who broke into government buildings "fascists."

"These people are everything that is abominable in politics, to invade the government headquarters, the headquarters of Congress, and the headquarters of the Supreme Court like true vandals destroying everything in their path," Lula said.

Moreover, Lula stated that there was a "lack of security" and promised that "all the people who did this will be found and punished."

World leaders condemned the attacks.
