Mexican police have made a horrifying discovery of 45 plastic bags filled with human remains. These remains are suspected to be linked to the recent disappearance of seven call center employees in the region, as per the information obtained by RadarOnline.com.
The shocking discovery was made in a suburban region outside of Guadalajara, Jalisco's capital city. This comes as Mexico continues to grapple with an escalating wave of violent crime and disappearances, largely due to burgeoning cartel activity even in traditionally popular tourist destinations.
In Jalisco alone, over 1,500 bodies have been found since 2018. The recent disappearance of seven call center workers between May 20 and 22 has added to the prevailing sense of dread in the region.
Luis Joaquín Méndez Ruíz, Jalisco's prosecutor, has suggested a chilling possibility: the recovered remains contained in the plastic bags might be of the missing call center employees. Ruíz, as per a CNN report, indicated that these bags were discarded in a steep ravine.
The Jalisco State Prosecutor's Office, following an initial investigation, stated that the body parts found were consistent with the physical characteristics of some of the vanished call center workers.
Efforts are currently underway by the Jalisco Institute of Forensic Sciences, in collaboration with the families of missing individuals, to formally identify the remains found.
Investigators are also trying to ascertain the total number of victims and their identities, in addition to confirming the suspicion regarding the call center employees.
The grim reality is that Mexican authorities have an extensive task ahead, with over 100,000 Mexican citizens and migrants reported missing across the country. In 2023 alone, the remains of at least 147 individuals have been discovered by the police.
Although certain areas in Mexico have been associated with high crime rates and controlled by deadly cartel gangs, popular tourist spots were often considered relatively safe. However, recent trends of escalating violence have expanded beyond the notoriously dangerous border towns, infiltrating sought-after travel locations such as Cancun.
Mysterious fatalities involving Americans have been reported in recent months, including a harrowing incident in March where four American tourists were kidnapped by a local cartel, having been mistakenly identified as Haitian drug smugglers. Only two of these Americans were eventually found alive and managed to return home safely.
