The marriage between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could be under significant strain given their recent business challenges, says American journalist and royal commentator Christopher Andersen.
Andersen recently joined podcast hosts Christina Garibaldi and Christine Ross on "Royally Us" to discuss the repercussions of Spotify discontinuing their partnership with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The conversation then shifted to potential marital discord, with Garibaldi probing whether these corporate upheavals could sow resentment within the royal couple, specifically from Prince Harry towards his wife.
Andersen emphasized that the Sussexes were individuals who craved relevance and wanted to make a meaningful impact globally. He identified Meghan as particularly ambitious and suggested that this might lead Prince Harry to feel used.
"They want to be a force on the global stage. Certainly, Meghan has that aspiration. She's a very driven woman seeking recognition and achievement, which isn't a criticism but a fact," Andersen explained. "Prince Harry might feel exploited to a certain extent. I think it's inevitable that this has stirred tension in their marriage. We'll have to observe how it unfolds."
Andersen also hinted at an undercurrent of skepticism about the longevity of the couple's marriage among certain individuals, with some even predicting its failure. While he refrained from outright confirmation, he conceded that the couple's life in Montecito was likely not free from tension.
"There's clearly a belief among some critics that the marriage is destined for trouble," he said. "I can't confirm that, but it's fair to assume there's tension in their household."
Andersen, author of "The Day Diana Died", further pointed out that the Sussexes have publicly acknowledged experiencing difficulties in their marriage.
"They've admitted to arguments and challenging times in their marriage. When a couple concedes to such issues this early, it raises red flags. It's not just transparency; it suggests real problems," he said.
However, these claims couldn't be independently verified by International Business Times.
Speculations about their marital discord gained momentum when the couple maintained silence on their fifth wedding anniversary last month. Royal commentator Lady Colin Campbell suggested that Prince Harry had sought legal counsel in light of marital issues.
Separately, there were rumors that the couple has been leading separate lives since the beginning of the year. Entertainment reporter and royal analyst Sarah Robertson commented on TalkTV that Markle's conspicuous absence during Prince Harry's recent interviews and memoir promotion indicated her strategic distancing from her husband.
