Big Hit Music has publicly addressed the legal actions taken concerning the infringement of BTS's rights.
On September 27th, the agency posted a notice titled 'Legal Action Status Regarding Artist Rights Infringement' on BTS's official fan community platform, Weverse.
Big Hit Music stated, "This quarter, based on the reports from fans and our own monitoring, we have collected evidence of defamation and other acts infringing on the artist's rights. We have submitted multiple complaints to investigative agencies."
The agency continued, "We have continuously gathered evidence against stalkers who have sent mail and packages to the artist's residence multiple times, even causing harm to their families. We have filed complaints based on the Stalking Punishment Law. As a result, the court has issued a temporary restraining order, and the case is currently under prosecution. We will continue to adopt a zero-tolerance policy against stalking crimes that infringe on the artist's privacy and threaten their safety."
Furthermore, "During the second quarter of 2022, some suspects were given decisions of suspension of indictment and non-prosecution. We have objected to these decisions and requested a re-investigation. As a result, some suspects have been legally punished for defamation."
Big Hit Music has also revealed its firm stance against malicious posts targeting all BTS members, including Jin, J-Hope, and Suga, who are currently serving their military duties. The agency emphasized, "Even if it takes time, we are continuously working to eradicate illegal acts against our artists. We will hold the suspects accountable without any compromise or leniency."
The official statement from Big Hit Music follows:
Hello,
This is Big Hit Music.
We are regularly taking legal actions against those who defame, insult, sexually harass, spread false information, and maliciously slander BTS. We would like to inform you of the major progress in this regard.
This quarter, based on the reports from fans and our own monitoring, we have collected evidence of defamation and other acts infringing on the artist's rights. We have submitted multiple complaints to investigative agencies.
Especially, we have continuously gathered evidence against stalkers who have sent mail and packages to the artist's residence multiple times, even causing harm to their families. We have filed complaints based on the Stalking Punishment Law. As a result, the court has issued a temporary restraining order, and the case is currently under prosecution.
In the second quarter of 2022, some suspects were given decisions of suspension of indictment and non-prosecution. We have objected to these decisions and requested a re-investigation. As a result, some suspects have been legally punished for defamation.
Moreover, among the suspects this time, there are those who have repeatedly left violent and insulting comments in the news portal comments section. These individuals have consistently engaged in malicious comment terrorism, and we have compiled all identifiable defamatory comments and filed complaints.
The collection, reporting, and legal response to malicious posts against BTS are ongoing. We are taking a firm stance against malicious posts targeting all members, including those serving their military duties.
We are continuously working to eradicate illegal acts against our artists, even if it takes time. We will hold the suspects accountable without any compromise or leniency.
We ask for the continued interest and active reporting through the Big Hit Music legal response account.
We are always grateful for the love and dedication fans show towards BTS. Big Hit Music will continue to work diligently to protect the rights of our artists.
Thank you.
