Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, has been the subject of much speculation regarding her potential entry into the world of politics. Recent events and comments from royal experts have only fueled the fire of this ongoing debate.
Meghan Markle, known for her role in the TV series "Suits" and her marriage to Prince Harry, has been rumored to be eyeing a career in politics for some time now. These speculations gained momentum after the death of California senator Dianne Feinstein, with whispers suggesting that Markle might consider stepping into the political arena.
Royal biographer Angela Levin, in a conversation with Sky News Australia, expressed skepticism about Markle's potential political career. Levin pointed out that Markle appears to be "clinging" to her royal title and suggested that she might be too "thin-skinned" for the rough and tumble of politics. "Meghan Markle could never really be a politician," Levin stated, adding that she believes Markle would have to relinquish her titles, something she doesn't see happening anytime soon.
The Duchess's rumored political aspirations have been further fueled by her connections with prominent Democrats. President Biden's sister, Valerie Biden Owens, reportedly endorsed Markle as a potential candidate for the White House. Furthermore, sources told the Daily Mail that immediately after Feinstein's death, there was rampant speculation about Markle potentially being appointed to fill the vacant Senate seat.
However, despite her connections with influential figures like Oprah Winfrey and the Kennedy family, many believe that Markle's chances of securing a position in the Capitol are slim. A major Democratic donor close to California Gov. Gavin Newsom commented on the situation, stating, "Meghan is definitely a long shot, but in the craziness that is US politics these days, it's not an impossibility."
Interestingly, Newsom had previously interviewed Markle for a Senator's position in October 2020, when he was looking for a replacement for then-Sen. Kamala Harris. Although Markle and Prince Harry had a virtual meeting with the Governor, he eventually chose another candidate for the role.
The idea of celebrities transitioning to politics is not new. Notable figures like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ronald Reagan have successfully made the switch. Schwarzenegger served as the governor of California, while Reagan, after a successful acting career, went on to become the 40th US president.
While the future remains uncertain, what is clear is that Meghan Markle continues to be a figure of intrigue and speculation, both in the realms of royalty and politics.
