The future moves of K-pop groups standing at the crossroads of the infamous "7-year curse" are drawing attention.

On October 9, Cube Entertainment, the agency of the group Pentagon, announced the contract expiration of five members through an official statement.

Cube stated, "Ahead of the expiration of Pentagon members' exclusive contracts, we had sincere discussions with the members for a long time," and "After careful deliberation, we have decided to end the exclusive contracts with Yeo One, Yan An, Yuto, Kino, and Wooseok."

They continued, "We express our deep gratitude to Yeo One, Yan An, Yuto, Kino, and Wooseok, who have been with us for the long journey of 7 years. We wish them happiness and will support the five Pentagon members as they embark on a new journey."

With this, Pentagon, a nine-member group that debuted in 2016 and is celebrating their 7th debut anniversary this year, faces uncertainty in their full group activities as more than half, five members, have left Cube. This has led to speculations of an effective disbandment. While there's a possibility that the members could regroup and continue, as of now, they seem to have taken different paths due to the '7-year curse'.

Similarly, BLACKPINK, also in their 7th year since debut, is currently surrounded by countless rumors regarding their re-contracting with YG Entertainment. From speculations of the entire group not renewing their contracts to astronomical contract amounts for certain members, various stories are being discussed. However, YG Entertainment has only stated that they are "in discussions" without confirming anything.

Previously, groups like BTS, TWICE, Dreamcatcher, and SEVENTEEN successfully renewed contracts with all members and their agencies, extending their group activities. On the other hand, some made new choices, leaving fans with a sense of regret. However, there's a growing trend where even if members change agencies, they still leave room for group activities, opening up various possibilities.

With these choices ahead, all eyes are on what decisions these idol groups will make.
