According to Grim, Bill Clinton lamented the unsuccessful nature of the campaign, alleging it was incapable of effectively selling its message, even going as far as to say it "could not sell p---- on a troop train."
The book suggests that Bill Clinton was critical of the campaign's overemphasis on identity politics and its strategy against Bernie Sanders, an independent rival. Grim wrote that this approach possibly alienated moderate voters and pushed them towards Sanders.
