Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly "reached out" to Kate Middleton ahead of her much-anticipated return to the spotlight at the annual Trooping the Colour ceremony on Saturday. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who have been engaged in an ongoing feud with the royal family, are said to be "desperate" to mend their relationship with the cancer-stricken princess.
According to a royal source, Harry and Meghan "jointly reached out" to Kate "to send well wishes" as she continues her battle with an undisclosed form of cancer. The insider revealed that the couple has been "following Kate's recovery with huge interest," despite their limited lines of communication with the palace and the Waleses.
"They have had enough information to know that people are excited about the idea of a comeback for Kate and they're both relieved and happy to hear that she's on the mend and may soon be well enough to return to her duties," the source told Closer.
However, the source acknowledged that Harry and Meghan are "still not really in a place with Kate to warrant much of a response," given the strained nature of their relationship. This hasn't deterred the Sussexes from attempting to connect with the princess, as they hope that her return to public duties might "take some of the heat off them and possibly trigger a truce with her and William, and with the King, too."
The revelation of Harry and Meghan's olive branch comes after the Duke of Sussex made two separate visits to London since Kate announced her devastating cancer diagnosis in January. Despite meeting with King Charles, who is also battling an undisclosed form of cancer, during a brief visit in February, Harry did not meet with either Kate or his brother, Prince William. Similarly, during a three-day visit in May, the prince did not meet with any members of the royal family.
Meghan Markle, who did not accompany her husband on either of his trips to England this year, is said to be "desperate" to "end this feud" between the Sussexes and the royal family, particularly in light of Kate's ongoing health struggles. A royal source revealed that Meghan sees this as an opportunity to "come across as the bigger person," and that "appearing like some sort of royal savior could only do her image good."
"And, despite all their bad blood, her heart does go out to Kate," the source added. "She can only imagine how hard this situation must be for her."
The insider also emphasized Meghan's desire to move past the "anger and bitterness" and "find a way towards healing for everyone's sake," signaling a potential shift in the dynamic between the estranged couple and the royal family.
As Kate Middleton continues her brave battle against cancer, the news of Harry and Meghan's attempt to reach out to her has sparked hope for a possible reconciliation between the Sussexes and the Waleses. While the road to healing may be long and arduous, given the depth of the rift between the two couples, this gesture could be a crucial first step in mending the fractured relationship and finding a way forward for the sake of the entire royal family.
Only time will tell if the Sussexes' olive branch will be accepted and if their hopes for a truce with Kate, William, and King Charles will come to fruition.
