It is not surprising that Matt Damon has always been there for Ben Affleck whenever he has been in a difficult situation because he previously referred to the “Batman” star, his childhood pal, as "like a brother to me."
However, as Matt continues to guide Ben, 51, through his ongoing marital troubles with his wife Jennifer Lopez and tries to keep him on the path to sobriety, there is one person who is struggling with all of the additional time and energy that is going into the bromance, and that is Matt's longtime wife Luciana.
“Lucy has always respected Matt’s friendship with Ben and understands they’re like brothers, but she’s getting increasingly fed up with all the dramas going on in Matt’s best mate’s life. She’s worked hard at being a rock-solid partner to Matt and feels invested in his future, but it doesn’t help when his principle business partner’s life keeps going off the rails,” an unnamed source told Woman’s Day Australia.
Matthew, who is 53 years old, and Luciana, who will turn 48 this week, first met in 2004, not long before Ben and Jennifer, who was 55 at the time, divorced for the first time. Since then, they have gone on to establish a strong and happy marriage and have raised four kids together.
During this same period of time, Ben has been through a difficult divorce from his first wife, Jennifer Garner, fought alcoholism, and achieved sobriety. Additionally, his second marriage is apparently in a state of strain, both of which are severe concerns for which he has relied on Matt for support.
Ben revealed in 2022 that his long-standing friendship with Matt has been extremely beneficial to him, stating, “is friendship has been essential and defining and so important to me in my life. There were a few critical times, which are private and I don’t want to share, but where your support was so profoundly meaningful to me that I don’t think I would’ve been able to be successful without it.”
But for Luciana, there is a limit to the amount of understanding she can provide, and despite the fact that Matt has always been a loving husband and father, she has the impression that his attention is continuously focused on his closest buddy, even when they are on a vacation together as a family.
“Lucy is worried about Ben too and cares about him, but it’s causing some headaches. She was hoping their family trip to Greece would be a good break for them, but even on holiday, Matt can’t turn his phone on ‘in case Ben calls,’” the anonymous insider told the entertainment news outlet.
Given that In Touch Weekly disclosed that the actor has been working around the clock to keep Ben busy in the midst of his relationship problems and to ensure that he is not tempted to relapse, the strain that has been placed on the marriage of Matt and Luciana has been brought about.
One of the informants claimed that Matt even agreed to star alongside Ben in a new film called "RIP" in order to divert his attention away from the stress that he is experiencing with Jennifer.
“What also irks Luciana is that she never really got along with Jennifer – they’re just very different people – so it’s extra annoying that her husband is now left having to pick up the pieces of their marriage fallout. Matt will always be loyal to Ben, but Luciana just wishes her husband’s best friend came with less drama,” the tipster stated.
