Dakota Johnson was quick to shoot down rumors that she and Chris Martin had split.
“The reports are not true. They are happily together,” an unnamed rep for the actress declared on August 16.
Dakota, who is 34 years old, made it a point to show off her emerald engagement ring that was given to her by Coldplay vocalist, who is 47 years old, to photographers in Malibu. However, according to an unidentified insider who spoke exclusively to Life & Style Magazine, the couple's seven-year relationship is not absolutely flawless.
“Chris and Dakota have had their ups and downs, like any couple. They spend a lot of time apart due to their respective work schedules — and sometimes, Chris can be a little too switched-off for Dakota’s liking. The distance is tough on them,” the undisclosed informant further told the entertainment news outlet.
As a result of speculations that she had broken up with her fiance, Chris, Dakota was seen wearing her engagement ring the previous week. On Friday, August 16, the actress who is 34 years old and is known for her role in "Cha Cha Real Smooth" was seen out and about in Malibu, California, with her friends Jeremy Allen White and Blake Lee.
In addition to wearing jeans and an oversized beige coat for the occasion, Dakota wore her emerald engagement ring on the left ring finger of her left ring finger. The glimpse of the ring came after rumors circulated that Dakota had ended her relationship with the 47-year-old frontman for Coldplay. A representative for the "Madame Web" star confirmed to PEOPLE Magazine on the same day that the photographs were shot that the couple is "happily together."
The last time Chris and Dakota were seen together was in June when Johnson went to the Glastonbury Festival to show his support for the "Fix You" singer during Coldplay's headlining act.
“They’ve had ups and downs, but now they’re definitely back on," a tipster told PEOPLE Magazine of the couple at the time, adding that they were "going strong."
Chris and Dakota started dating for the first time in 2017, three years after the singer and his ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow divorced, or as they famously called it, "consciously uncoupled."
The actress from "Fifty Shades of Grey" was spotted for the first time wearing the emerald ring on her left ring finger in the month of December in the year 2020. Nevertheless, it wasn't until March 2024 that her engagement to Martin was officially announced.
"[They] got engaged years ago, but were in no rush to get married," a mole close to the couple told PEOPLE Magazine at the time.
In spite of the fact that both Chris and Dakota have occupations that are visible to the public, they have chosen to keep their relationship as secret as possible. However, they have occasionally broached the subject of their relationship and have attended each other's events.
During the most current episode of the Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend podcast, which aired in March 2023, Chris discussed Dakota and expressed his gratitude for her assistance in enhancing the quality of his band's performances for individuals who have hearing problems.
"Dakota, my partner, gave me one as a gift because she saw someone online experiencing whatever they are experiencing with this," Chris said of being introduced to a SubPac — a device that allows people with hearing impairments to feel the vibrations of a concert — by the actress.
"It's kind of like body armor that you put on. It connects to the bass. So we started using it and it's been so amazing and it should get better and better. We have 10 or 20 now of those packs. So if you're hearing impaired, we have an area where you put on the pack and you can feel the show,” Chris continued.
