Mariah Carey may refer to herself as the Queen of Christmas, but her affiliation with the holiday season is more than just a moniker. According to unnamed sources, it is a financial lifeline at this point in time.

“It’s become a crucial time of year for her financially. With ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’ topping the charts every December, along with holiday-themed performances and merch, it’s a key part of her income. Mariah doesn’t just look forward to Christmas — she counts on it!” an unnamed insider told Life & Style Magazine.

But, undisclosed informants suggested that there’s something sad about it. “The holiday magic has become more about dollars than cheer,” a close pal of Mariah explained.

Meanwhile, PEOPLE Magazine confirmed earlier this week that Mariah's mom, Patricia, and sister, Alison, died on the same day.

"My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day," the Grammy-winning singer, 55, said in a statement.

"I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed. I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time,” Mariah added.

There is currently no information available regarding any more facts, including the reasons for Patricia and Alison's deaths.

Prior to the arrival of their children Alison, Mariah, and Morgan, Patricia, who had previously been married to Alfred Roy Carey, had a professional career as a voice instructor and opera singer who had received training at Juilliard. Later on, when the singer of "Hero" was three years old, his parents broke up and divorced.

Throughout her whole life, Mariah's relationship with her mother, from whom she acquired her singing skills, was fraught with difficulties.

"Like many aspects of my life, my journey with my mother has been full of contradictions and competing realities. It's never been only black-and-white — it's been a whole rainbow of emotions," Mariah penned in her 2020 memoir, “The Meaning of Mariah Carey.”

"Our relationship is a prickly rope of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration and disappointment. A complicated love tethers my heart to my mother's,” Mariah continued.

Mariah and her mother continued to have a relationship despite the difficulties that they encountered together. As part of the “Mariah Carey: Merry Christmas to You” special that aired on ABC in 2010, the two of them collaborated to perform a joyful rendition of "O Come All Ye Faithful/Hallelujah Chorus."

Patricia was also a part of Mariah's memoir, which she dedicated in part. "And to Pat, my mother, who, through it all, I do believe actually did the best she could. I will love you the best I can, always,” she wrote.

Additionally, Mariah's connection with Alison was of a very complicated kind. During the time period in question, the celebrity stated in the memoir that it was "emotionally and physically safer for me not to have any contact" with either her or Morgan.
