Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck's separation may prove to be costly. A new report confirmed that the couple did not have a prenuptial agreement when they eloped in La Vegas in 2022, and as a result, their divorce has the potential to be contentious.
According to the unnamed source, there are some sticking points over financials while Jennifer, 55, and Ben, 52, are currently in mediation with high-powered divorce attorney Laura Wasser, whose past clients include Kim Kardashian and Kevin Costner.
On the two-year anniversary of her and Ben’s wedding celebration at his Savannah-area estate, Jennifer submitted a divorce petition on August 20. She stated that she was unaware of their assets at the time of the filing, PEOPLE Magazine reported.
Only the income Jennifer and Ben earned, or the assets they acquired during their two-year union would be deemed community property and subject to division, as per California state law. But the sum is not insignificant.
In 2023, Jennifer and Ben acquired a Beverly Hills estate, which they listed for $68 million in July, Marie Claire reported. Additionally, each has reportedly earned millions through film projects and endorsements, such as Dunkin' commercials.
Insiders have disclosed additional information regarding the circumstances of Jennifer and Ben’s separation as they endeavor to resolve financial matters. The songstress specified the date of separation as April 26, while she was in the New York area filming “Kiss of the Spider Woman,” and he was back in L.A. in the divorce petition.
“Ben began moving his things out of their shared home while Jennifer was in New York in April, effectively blindsiding her,” the undisclosed informant stated, adding that when Jennifer returned to L.A. in May, “he wouldn’t answer texts or calls.”
According to tipsters, Ben has been spending time with 36-year-old actress Kick Kennedy, the daughter of former presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., in recent months. However, a representative for Ben denied that they are romantically involved.
Ben also obtained a $20 million residence in July. Affleck is "gradually" acclimating to his new residence and pondering his future, according to a third source. “He’s happy with how it’s coming along. He’s where he wants to be in a neighborhood that he loves. He is very focused on the positives,” the mole stated.
Despite the end of her marriage to Ben, “she still feels fortunate-she’s surrounded by family, friends,” the tattler said. “The divorce is difficult for her, but she always finds a way to move forward,” it added.
