Following her cancer treatment, Olivia Munn was able to complete her family with the assistance of a gestational surrogate.
On September 23, Olivia Munn announced that she and her husband, John Mulaney, had become parents for the second time. “Mei June Mulaney came into the world September 14, 2024, the year of the dragon,” the “Newroom” star wrote on Instagram, sharing that Mei means plum in Chinese. “I am so proud of my little plum, my little dragon, for making the journey to be with us. My heart has exploded.”
The trip was not easy for either the infant or the parents. In the year 2023, Olivia, who was 44 years old at the time, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. As part of her therapy, she underwent five surgical procedures.
The hysterectomy was one of them, and it meant that she would no longer be able to carry her children. To fulfill their desire to provide their son Malcolm, who is two years old, with a sibling, Olivia, and John, who tied the knot in July, sought the assistance of a surrogate.
A source told Life & Style Magazine, "They say their family is now finally complete. Olivia and John thought having two children under three would be more chaotic, but the adjustment has actually been pretty smooth!"
Family members and nannies are currently accessible to offer support to the parents who are experiencing sleep deprivation. Olivia is in the trenches doing the dirty (diaper!) labor.
"She loves it," the insider said. "Being a mom has always been her dream role."
Whatever the case may be. It would appear that tiny Mei is engaged in cementing her position as a daddy's girl. The source revealed that John was surprised by how much he melted. He reportedly tells Méi he's already testing out jokes on her while singing to her. Holding Méi makes her face brighten.
Big brother Malcolm also appears smitten. According to the source, he was overjoyed to meet his sister finally. The nursery, adorned with cozy beige and pink hues, is referred to as a "mini sanctuary" by Olivia. When Méi finally showed up, she and John were completely ready.
However, none of it would have come to fruition without the woman who carried their embryo. After Olivia's diagnosis, the couple had frozen two healthy fertilized eggs, PEOPLE Magazine reported.
"When I first met our gestational surrogate, we spoke mother to mother," Olivia said. "She showed me so much grace and understanding, I knew I had found a real-life angel."
On the other hand, those closest to Olivia and John, who are both 42 years old, are not persuaded that they are finished having children.
"This experience went so perfectly that, who knows?" the insider mused. "They might decide they want a third child with the same surrogate!"
