Shocked spies snickered under their breath as they considered the possibility that Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck's divorce could last longer than their marriage.
Laura Wasser, a prominent Hollywood attorney, has been hired by the feuding ex-couple to assist them in mediating the specifics of their divorce; however, there are still many legal issues that need to be resolved.
"Part of the reason Ben agreed to go to mediation was to try to get things settled as soon as possible," in particular, regarding the sale of their previous Beverly Hills home, an insider spilled to Globe Magazine.
On the other hand, an agreement to sell the home, which they had advertised for $68 million, eight million dollars higher than what they paid for it, was unsuccessful because the buyer withdrew at the very last minute.
"Until that's sold, they can't settle the divorce," the tipster tattled.
In addition, according to a mole, they are still arguing about the amount of money that she will be required to give him because they did not have a prenuptial agreement.
One more disagreement concerns the production firm Artists Equity, which Ben and his friend Matt Damon work for, as per The Hollywood Reporter.
"That's considered community property and Jennifer's going to want a piece of that," the snitch insisted.
Moreover, their conflicting sentiments toward each other further delay matters. Globe Magazine reported in the past that the Oscar winner and the "Hustlers" star were recently seen holding hands and kissing at the Polo Lounge of the Beverly Hills Hotel. This is even though the Oscar winner's pals claim that he is finished with the "Atlas" star.
"That has delayed countless meetings because it's hard to negotiate the terms of a split when they've just been all lovey-dovey the night before," a spy said. "The whole situation is a mess and people are predicting this could drag out for months, if not years."
Jennifer filed for divorce from Ben, who is 52 years old, on August 20 after they had been married for two years, PEOPLE Magazine reported. This news comes after months of suspicion that the couple was no longer together. The 26th of April was stated as the date of the couple's separation, and she said their separation was because they had irreconcilable differences.
Additionally, Lopez requested that the word "Affleck" be removed from her surname and that she be renamed Jennifer Lynn Lopez in accordance with the law.
