Amid a debilitating stiff-person syndrome, Céline Dion is continuing her courageous recovery. A new report suggests she is pursuing the ultimate prize: a new Las Vegas residency.
The 56-year-old singer of "Power of Love" continues to contend with the most challenging symptoms of the rare and intractable neurological disorder, which frequently results in frozen vocal cords, according to a single source.
However, the source discloses that she is motivated by her heroic performance at the Paris Summer Olympics opening ceremony and her moving promotional video for the National Football League and is resolute in her commitment to perform at the earliest opportunity.
Nevertheless, the insider told In Touch Weekly that Céline would not be content until she returned to Las Vegas, where she performed over 400 performances for a devoted audience at Caesars Palace from 2011 to 2019.
Currently, it appears that various artists, including U2 and Elton John, are conducting residencies in Las Vegas. Although Céline is the original, she is the one who paved the way, as the insider revealed. Additionally, she asserted that she intends to return to demonstrate the process.
Another source claimed that Céline is enthusiastic about the future as her management team strives to secure a 2025 residency in Sin City. They also mention that the superstar has been physically deprived of much due to her illness, but they are confident that it did not wholly deprive her of everything.
The informant claimed there were times when she believed that concerts would be impossible. However, she is now confident in her ability to accomplish this task with the assistance of physical therapy and medications.
Most, if not all, fans can recall that Céline Dion, a Canadian music icon, disclosed a rare diagnosis known as rigid person syndrome nearly two years ago and subsequently withdrew from public life. She previously discussed her diagnosis with NBC News.
Céline has been resisting a rare autoimmune neurological disorder called stiff person syndrome (SPS), which impairs her ability to sing and move. She disclosed the unsettling reality of living with SPS during an interview with Hota Kotb in August.
It is as though someone is attempting to choke you. "It's as though someone is pushing on your larynx or pharynx," Celine stated during the interview. As the name suggests, Celine also experiences muscle rigidity, which has affected her quality of life and her capacity to engage in activities that she enjoys.
"If I cook — because I love to cook — my fingers, my hands, will get in position. … It’s cramping, but it’s like in a position where you cannot unlock them," Celine said.
Additionally, she frequently experiences muscle contractions in her abdominal and throat regions. The force of one particular incident was so significant that it caused Dion to fracture one of her ribs.
Regrettably, these spasms impact every aspect of her daily existence. Celine informed Kotb that her vocal cords occasionally restrict her ability to perform in the manner she is accustomed to and occasionally cause her to experience difficulty walking.
"All I know is singing. It’s what I’ve done all my life. And it’s what I love to do the most," Celine stated.
