Sam Asghari is stepping into a new chapter of his life following his divorce from Britney Spears, and he's opening up about his journey. The model and actor, who finalized his divorce from the pop icon six months ago, spoke candidly during the inaugural amfAR Las Vegas benefit for AIDS research on November 22, revealing his thoughts on moving forward and the lessons learned from his high-profile marriage.
"It's the bed that you make yourself, and you got to learn how to lay in it," Asghari told PEOPLE at the event, where he was joined by his sister Fay and Beverly Hills real estate agent Brooke Irvine. "You just got to keep it positive, stay grounded, and understand what the truth is, and really just live with that rather than other people's opinions or anything like that."
Asghari, 30, who met Spears on the set of her "Slumber Party" music video, tied the knot with her in June 2022 after six years of dating. However, their marriage ended just 14 months later. Despite the split, Asghari has consistently taken the high road when discussing Spears.
"It was a blessing to be able to share life with someone for a long time. And people grow apart and people move on," he told PEOPLE earlier this year. "That chapter of my life will always be a part of me."
Following their separation, Asghari addressed the breakup with grace, writing on Instagram, "After six years of love and commitment to each other, my wife and I have decided to end our journey together. We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other, and I wish her the best always."
Now, Asghari is focusing on his career. He shared his excitement about upcoming projects, including his appearance on the third season of The Traitors. "There's a lot of work stuff that I'm doing that I want to let the work do the talk," he said. "I did a few projects and [am] very excited to announce [them]."
Amid the professional momentum, Asghari has also been navigating personal growth. He has been frequently seen with Irvine, sparking speculation about their relationship. The pair have been spotted shopping, working out, and attending events together, though Asghari has remained tight-lipped about the nature of their bond.
Despite his efforts to remain optimistic, Asghari hasn't shied away from reflecting on the difficulties of divorce. "You learn so much from being in relationships in general," he said. "It grows you as a person."
Meanwhile, Spears and Asghari are still not "legally" single under California law, despite their divorce settlement in May. According to reports, the legal declaration will take effect on December 2, coinciding with Spears' 43rd birthday. Sources close to the singer indicated that this timing was chosen to avoid the public spectacle of a trial.
While Asghari embraces his next steps, he remains mindful of his past. "I wish [Britney] the best," he said. "She's an amazing person and a huge part of my life, and I always appreciate the moments we had together."
