On Friday night, while Jamie Foxx was celebrating his birthday at the popular restaurant Mr. Chow in Los Angeles, he was embroiled in a fight with another patron.
"Jamie Foxx was at his birthday dinner when someone from another table threw a glass that hit him in the mouth," a spokesperson for the "Just Mercy" star told Page Six Saturday. "He had to get stitches and is recovering. The police were called and the matter is now in law enforcement's hands."
This information was received by Page Six via a press statement issued by the Beverly Hills Police Department. The announcement adds that law enforcement was dispatched to Mr. Chow at 10:06 p.m. on Friday for a suspected assault with a deadly weapon.
The police agency verified that the event "involved a physical altercation between parties," despite the fact that the report of assault was "unfounded."
LA Times received information that no arrests were made; officers submitted a report that detailed the incident of battery. The incident is still being looked into by the authorities.
Customers at another table were "being rude and vulgar" to the singer of "Blame It," according to a witness who spoke to the outlet during the incident.
According to reports, someone at the table where Foxx was sitting "allegedly threw the glass that hit him in the face" when he urged the other people to leave him alone because his family was present.
Following the near-death health scare that he faced in 2023, Foxx was spotted and recorded signing autographs outside of Mr. Chow on Tuesday night. He also expressed his gratitude for the fact that he was still alive to celebrate another birthday.
"It's beautiful because I didn't know if I would be here to celebrate it," he addressed the photographers in a video post on X.
In addition, Foxx discussed his return to the stage for his highly anticipated Netflix special titled "What Happened Was," which made its debut on Tuesday.
"It's amazing, man, to have gone through something so crazy, but to get back on, make some chuckles and let other people know what's up, was amazing," he said.
In the course of the program, the recipient of the Academy Award became upset as he disclosed that he had been hospitalized for many weeks beginning in April 2023 due to a "brain bleed that... led to a stroke."
Additionally, he stated that he did not recall the twenty days that he spent in the hospital.
In the end, the surgeon was unable to pinpoint the exact location where the bleeding in the brain started, but he was able to make a full recovery.
"We still don't know exactly what happened to me," he said in the show. "All I can tell you is that I appreciate every prayer because I needed every prayer."
Foxx's latest brush with violence has sparked strong reactions from fans and followers on social media, many of whom expressed concern for the actor's well-being. On X, users voiced their disbelief and frustration over the incident, particularly given Foxx's tumultuous year.
One user wrote, "Not Jamie Foxx dealing with this on his birthday after everything he's been through this year. Unbelievable." A second user felt that the actor deserved better, commenting, "Jamie Foxx deserves better than this! Why are people so rude at a birthday dinner?"
Fans were also disturbed by the violent nature of the altercation. A follower questioned the logic of the aggressor, saying, "Who throws a glass at someone on their birthday?? This is insane. Hope Jamie Foxx is okay." Meanwhile, a netizen expressed sympathy for the actor's ongoing struggles, stating, "Jamie Foxx keeps going through it. He deserves peace, not this mess."
Many others focused on Foxx's difficult health journey earlier in the year. A fan wrote, "No one should have to go through this, especially not after the year Jamie Foxx has had. Prayers up!" Another one offered relief, adding, "I'm just glad Jamie Foxx is recovering. After the health scare, this is too much."
Clearly, fans are rallying behind Foxx, showing concern for both his physical and emotional well-being.
