Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau recalled how his spontaneous trade proposal stopped Donald Trump from pursuing talk of annexing Canada. In a preview of an MSNBC interview with Jen Psaki, Trudeau explained how the lighthearted idea swiftly redirected their conversation to border security and economic cooperation.

Trudeau and Trump Discuss Annexation of Canada

There was a chat between President-elect Donald Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau about the possibility of annexing Canada. Trudeau stated that he was able to conclude the conversation by suggesting a trade, OK! Magazine reports.

Trudeau discussed his recent trip to Mar-a-Lago to "reconnect" with the soon-to-be President of the United States of America by participating in a preview for an interview with Jen Psaki that will be shown on MSNBC on Sunday, January 12.

Border Security Dominates Canada-U.S. Talks

Trudeau, who is 53 years old, stated that they originally discussed border security issues between Canada and the United States. This is due to the fact that Trump, who is 78 years old, has expressed concerns regarding illegal immigration and the importation of illegal narcotics from Canada.

During his speech, Trudeau stated his satisfaction in bringing attention to the fact that Canada is the source of less than one percent of the illegal immigrants and less than one percent of the fentanyl that is imported into the United States.

"So we're not a problem, but we're happy to and we've actually responded to his request for us to do more with billions of dollars worth of investments to even further strengthen the security at our borders, to make sure we're reducing the flow of illicit drugs back and forth across our border, to get a better handle on the migration issues that are real at the northern border, but nowhere near the level of concern that Americans have further south."

Trudeau's Strategic Investments Address U.S. Concerns

After Psaki brought up Trump's recent remarks about Canada being the 51st state and joining with the United States, Trudeau pointed out that the politician had also made jokes to him that were similar to those comments.

Per the Hindustan Times, the Prime Minister disclosed that when he began to imply that there might be a deal for Vermont or California for certain sections, the POTUS immediately determined that it was no longer amusing, and they turned their attention to an other topic of discussion.

Annexation Jokes Highlight Ongoing Border Dynamics

The fact that Trump is acting in this manner is not completely unexpected.
