President Trump is reportedly ordering the dismissal of FBI agents involved in the investigation into his role in the 2020 election. The decision, part of a broader personnel overhaul favoring MAGA loyalists, is stirring significant political controversy and raising questions about the agency's independence.

According to a report that was published by the Associated Press on Friday, President Donald Trump is making action to dismiss FBI personnel who were involved in criminal investigations of him.

It is not immediately obvious how many agents will be affected by the decision; nevertheless, authorities acting at the direction of the administration were attempting to identify specific agents who could be terminated, according to the article. The individuals who insisted on anonymity in order to share private conversations indicated that they were working on this.

The head of the Washington FBI Field Office, David Sundberg, is reportedly one of the officials who has already been informed of the upcoming termination of his position, as reported by NBC News. Christopher Wray, who had previously served as the Director of the FBI and was appointed by Trump during the previous administration, appointed Sundberg to the position.

At the same time that special counsel Jack Smith was conducting the criminal investigation into President Trump's attempt to reverse the results of the presidential election in 2020, the Washington Field Office was actively participating in the investigation.

This comes after Trump made the decision to remove career prosecutors at the Justice Department who were also involved with those cases. This is a very rare move from Trump, as the only officials who are typically replaced with new administrations are U.S. attorneys, and not the career prosecutors who work under them.

It also comes at a time when Trump is attempting to convince Kash Patel, a supporter of the MAGA party, to take over as director of the FBI, despite the fact that Patel has a long list of adversaries and has threatened to criminally target journalists, The Raw Story shares.

Donald Trump took office as the 47th President of the United States on Monday, January 20, 2025. In his second inaugural address, he said that "the golden age of America begins right now." At the same time, he rapidly asserted his authority over the executive branch of government.

"From this day forward, our country will flourish and be respected again all over the world," the new president declared in his 30-minute speech in the Capitol Rotunda.
