Ben Affleck's daughter, Violet Affleck, 19, has reportedly severed ties with Jennifer Lopez, months after her father and the singer finalized their divorce in January 2025. The decision comes as the teenager, who had previously maintained a close relationship with Lopez, is said to have felt like a "pawn" in the high-profile split, according to sources cited by the Daily Mail.
Violet, whom Affleck shares with his ex-wife Jennifer Garner, had remained connected to Lopez even after Affleck and Lopez's marriage began to unravel last year. She was previously seen wearing Lopez's 2023 Valentine's Day dress and had spent time with Lopez's sister, Lynda Lopez, while attending Yale University. At the time, insiders said Violet had a "strong attachment" to Lopez and her family, which left Affleck and Garner "confused" about her loyalty.
A source now claims Violet's perspective changed after watching her father go through the public and highly scrutinized divorce process. "Violet felt like she was used as a pawn, so to speak, during her dad's split from JLo," an insider told Daily Mail. The source also said the realization was her own, rather than being influenced by either parent.
"Jen [Garner] supported her daughter getting close to the singer because she always puts her children first," the source added. However, as the divorce loomed, the family grew increasingly uneasy about Violet's continued connection to Lopez, including her visits with Lynda Lopez. "But Jen even let this slide because she wants Violet to be happy and respects that, as an adult, she can choose who to spend her time with even if Jen does not necessarily agree," the source said.
The turning point reportedly came when Violet saw the toll the divorce was taking on her father. "Over time Violet started to see how upset her father was that their split was at the center of everything," the source said, adding that Affleck never spoke negatively about Lopez to his daughter. "Violet is highly intelligent and will ultimately always be a daddy's girl. This is why you do not see her on public outings with JLo anymore."
Affleck and Lopez's on-again, off-again relationship spanned over two decades, beginning in the early 2000s before they rekindled their romance and married in 2022. Their split last year marked the end of their short-lived second attempt at marriage.
Throughout their relationship, Affleck and Lopez were known to blend their families, with Affleck's three children-Violet, Fin, 16, and Samuel, 12-spending time with Lopez's twins, Max and Emme, from her marriage to Marc Anthony. However, sources suggest that Affleck and Garner have grown closer in the wake of his second divorce.
They are "closer than they've ever been since their divorce," a source told Page Six. Affleck and Garner, who finalized their divorce in 2018, have long been committed to co-parenting their children.
