The British royal family has shown little to no interest in Meghan Markle's latest venture, a Netflix lifestyle series titled With Love, Meghan, according to royal insiders. The Duchess of Sussex's show debuted on March 4, but sources close to the palace suggest it has not garnered attention from King Charles or other senior royals.
Longtime royal correspondent Rebecca English reported on the Daily Mail's Palace Confidential podcast that palace insiders are largely indifferent to the series. "I've asked a few people and I asked someone last week about it and they went, 'Oh, when is it? Tuesday.' I mean, they were that disinterested," English said.
While some individuals within the palace may eventually watch the series, English noted that most do not see it as relevant to the monarchy. "They might get past the first episode and they might not, but honestly, I genuinely think they don't feel it has any relevance to them whatsoever," she added.
Despite the indifference from the royal family, English stated that there is little concern over the series because Meghan is not directly leveraging her former royal status for commercial gain. "As long as she is not now using her position in the royal family in an obvious way to sell, then she has got every right to do what she wants," she explained.
Royal commentator Richard Eden suggested that the monarchy might even benefit from Meghan's success outside the institution. It would "suit the royal family if this was a success, frankly. If she can make a success out of lifestyle programs, great," Eden said.
Since stepping down from their roles as senior royals in 2020, Meghan and Prince Harry have pursued various media and business ventures, including a multi-million-dollar deal with Netflix. Their earlier projects, such as the Harry & Meghan docuseries and Prince Harry's memoir Spare, have stirred controversy and strained relations with the royal family.
In With Love, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex focuses on personal stories, wellness, and lifestyle topics rather than royal matters. However, she did address her title in a conversation with actress Mindy Kaling, correcting Kaling when she referred to her as "Meghan Markle." Meghan responded, "You know I'm Sussex now," emphasizing how meaningful the title is to her and her family.
During a recent interview, Meghan reiterated the importance of her royal title. "I love that that is something that Archie, Lili, H and I all have together," she said, referring to her husband and their two children, Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3. "It means a lot to me."
