Chrissy Teigen confirmed she underwent a hairline-lowering procedure after an image of her with a bandaged face circulated widely on social media, triggering concern and speculation among fans. The 39-year-old model and entrepreneur addressed the surgery on Instagram Stories, days after a video showed her smiling from a hospital bed with gauze wrapped around her chin, head, and neck.
"Hi friends! [A] lot of you have been wondering about my hospital pic which is very understandable as I gave no explanation lol," Teigen wrote on May 23. "I had a hairline lowering procedure." Alongside the caption, she posted a photo pulling back her bandage to reveal stitches along her forehead.
"Lost a lot in the front from babies and it's just very thin up there," she added. "When you see it on a carpet, it's ALWAYS extensions."
Teigen, who shares four children with singer John Legend, including two born in 2023 via surrogate, said she would "share more later" about the cosmetic journey if fans remained interested. It really was "a journey," she wrote.
The post followed a wave of online concern after fans viewed her heavily bandaged face during a livestream. "You okay?" one user commented, while another wrote, "Surgery face, oh girl." Her team did not immediately respond to media requests for comment at the time.
Teigen has long been open about her history with cosmetic enhancements. In 2021, she revealed she had undergone eyebrow transplant surgery using hair taken from the back of her head. "I never wear makeup if I can avoid it so I was so excited for this eyebrow transplant surgery," she posted, tagging Drs. Jason Diamond and Jason Champagne.
Earlier cosmetic procedures she's publicly acknowledged include breast augmentation and subsequent removal, a breast lift, buccal fat removal, Botox injections in her underarms to prevent sweating, and even liposuction in her armpits. "I had an armpit sucked out, which was one of the best things," Teigen told Refinery29 in 2017. "It made me feel better in dresses; I felt more confident."
Teigen has also experimented with dramatic hairstyle changes over the years. She debuted a short bob at the 2025 Grammy Awards and has tried various hair colors, from pastel pink to light blonde and brown tones. "Keeping it short!" she captioned a mirror video, tagging her glam team.
Known for blending honesty and humor, Teigen once told reporters, "everything about [her] is fake except [her] cheeks." Despite the scrutiny surrounding her appearance, she has remained unapologetic. "I have no regrets, honestly," she said of her past procedures.
