Queen Camilla is expected to make a symbolic statement during her visit to Canada by wearing historic royal jewelry that highlights Canada's place in the Commonwealth, as U.S. President Donald Trump continues to suggest the country should become the 51st American state. Jewelry experts believe Camilla may select iconic pieces from Queen Elizabeth II's collection, including the Diamond Maple-Leaf Brooch, to reinforce ties between the monarchy and Canada.

"We wouldn't be surprised if Queen Camilla pays tribute to Canada with her choice of jewellery," James Harris, regional sales manager at Austen & Blake, told GB News. "There are a number of iconic brooches in the late Queen Elizabeth II's collection that we may see being worn by Queen Camilla."

The Queen is accompanying King Charles III on a two-day visit beginning May 26, during which the king will deliver the speech from the throne to open Canada's new parliamentary session. The trip comes amid heightened symbolic sensitivity, as Prime Minister Mark Carney has forcefully rejected Trump's annexation rhetoric. Canadian officials have said the royal visit underscores the country's sovereignty and distinct constitutional identity.

Among the most significant items in the royal jewelry collection is the Diamond Maple-Leaf Brooch, made by Asprey & Co. in the late 1930s. "King George VI gifted the Queen Mother the brooch before their royal visit to Canada in 1939," Harris explained. The piece was later worn by Queen Elizabeth, then Princess Elizabeth, during her first visit to Canada in 1951.

"Queen Camilla has worn the brooch herself during her first official visit in November 2009, and it features in her official portrait for Canada," Harris added, noting the continuity across generations.

Harris said the maple leaf's national symbolism makes it an ideal choice for such a politically and culturally sensitive trip. "If Queen Camilla chooses to wear a piece from the extensive collection of the late Queen, it could be seen as a wonderful symbol of carrying on Queen Elizabeth's deep commitment and dedication to the Commonwealth," he said.

Other options from the royal vault include the Snowflake Brooch, set with Canadian beluga sapphires and diamonds, and gifted by Canada for Queen Elizabeth's Sapphire Jubilee. Camilla may also opt for a colorful enamel maple leaf brooch worn by Elizabeth during her 2010 tour of Canada or a more modern piece made by Canadian jeweler Rachel Mielke of Hillberg & Berk, featuring diamonds, tourmalines, and a freshwater pearl-gifted by the province of Saskatchewan in 2013.

Harris said Camilla's accessories could serve a dual purpose-honoring Canada and reflecting the legacy of Queen Elizabeth II-while also offering a personal tribute through remembrance jewelry.
