President Donald Trump launched a political broadside against President Joe Biden, federal judges, and his perceived adversaries in an all-caps Memorial Day message posted Monday on Truth Social, just hours before his scheduled appearance at Arlington National Cemetery.
"Happy Memorial Day to all, including the scum that spent the last four years trying to destroy our country through warped radical left minds," Trump wrote. The post continued with criticism of immigration policy under Biden, calling the southern border "an open border that only an incompetent president would approve."
The former president also took aim at the federal judiciary, singling out judges who have ruled against aspects of his immigration agenda. "Hopefully the United States Supreme Court, and other good and compassionate judges throughout the land, will save us from the decisions of the monsters who want our country to go to hell," Trump stated.
The remarks come in sharp contrast to traditional presidential Memorial Day messages, which typically emphasize unity, remembrance, and honor for fallen U.S. service members. Trump is scheduled to participate in the wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery and deliver remarks at the cemetery's amphitheater, continuing the longstanding practice observed by U.S. presidents.
While Trump's rhetoric has frequently drawn criticism for its combative tone on national holidays, his Memorial Day post underscores a broader pattern. On Christmas, he attacked Canada, the Panama Canal, and Greenland. On Thanksgiving, he labeled his opponents "radical left lunatics" while celebrating his own political victories.
Meanwhile, the White House maintained a more solemn approach. On Sunday night, it released a video of a bugler playing "Taps" at Arlington and issued a statement on X: "A grateful nation honors our fallen. We will never forget. We pray for their loved ones and all Gold Star Families." The White House did not respond to requests for comment on Trump's message.
