G-Dragon's attempt to dismiss dating rumors with TWICE member Sana has backfired, igniting a wave of backlash on social media over the tone and implications of his agency's statement. The controversy erupted after fans accused the BIGBANG artist of disrespecting Sana's long-standing role as a host on the YouTube series Fridge Interview and capitalizing on speculation to promote his own appearances.

The rumors began circulating in early May when G-Dragon tagged Sana in an Instagram story from Coldplay's Seoul concert, where TWICE performed as special guests. Though the story was deleted shortly after, it reignited fan speculation, especially after it was revealed G-Dragon would appear on Fridge Interview, which Sana co-hosts alongside Dex.

In response to the renewed attention, G-Dragon's agency released a statement denying any romantic involvement. "G-Dragon filmed Dex and Sana's Fridge Interview on April 14, the day after the final broadcast of MBC's Good Day. On April 22, TWICE performed as a special guest at Coldplay's concert in Korea," the agency stated. "The reason why he did not address the rumors of his relationship with Sana from the start was because he thought it could be a spoiler for his appearance on Fridge Interview."

The agency added that G-Dragon joined the show due to his friendship with Dex and emphasized that "there are no romantic feelings between the stars."

However, the statement's framing has drawn ire online. Many fans on X (formerly Twitter) challenged the claim that Sana joined the show last minute. "That's how you know he's lying. Sana's been hosting this for 3 months-he went for her," wrote user @SanaMana1996. Others argued the statement seemed to minimize Sana's role on the program. "Why is his side trying to act like she was just randomly inserted in the show last minute when she's been the MC for almost the past 3 months," one fan posted.

The criticism extended to the necessity of the agency's response, with several commenters suggesting the dating rumors were never serious enough to warrant an official denial. "Mind you, I've seen more tweets, TikToks, and rumors about Hoshi and Sana dating, but you don't see HYBE making a statement," another post read.

"Sometimes the best way to make the rumors go away is by not saying shit about it, ya know," one user added, reflecting broader sentiment that the clarification only intensified attention.

G-Dragon, who released his third solo album Ubermensch in February and launched a concert tour in March, continues to promote his music. Sana is preparing for TWICE's comeback with the album This Is For, scheduled for release on July 11. Both artists have not directly addressed the backlash surrounding the agency's remarks.
