Wesley LePatner, a senior executive at Blackstone Inc., was among four people killed in a mass shooting at a Midtown Manhattan office building Monday evening, according to the company and police. LePatner, the Global Head of Core+ Real Estate and CEO of Blackstone Real Estate Income Trust, was shot in the lobby of 345 Park Avenue, where Blackstone and the NFL maintain offices.
"Words cannot express the devastation we feel," Blackstone said in a statement. "Wesley was a beloved member of the Blackstone family and will be sorely missed. She was brilliant, passionate, warm, generous, and deeply respected within our firm and beyond."
LePatner, a Yale graduate and mother of two, also served as chair of Blackstone's Women's Initiative and was elected as an Elective Trustee of the Metropolitan Museum of Art earlier this year.
The suspected gunman, identified as Shane Devon Tamura, 27, of Las Vegas, entered the building shortly before 6:30 p.m. with an M4 rifle and began firing inside the lobby, New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said. Tamura killed three people, including LePatner and off-duty NYPD officer Didarul Islam, before taking the elevator to the 33rd floor and fatally shooting himself.

Commissioner Tisch said Tamura had a "documented mental health history," and law enforcement recovered prescription medication, multiple firearms, and ammunition from his vehicle.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell confirmed in a memo that an NFL employee was "seriously injured in this attack" and hospitalized in stable condition. "NFL staff are at the hospital and we are supporting his family," Goodell wrote. "We believe that all of our employees are otherwise safe and accounted for."
According to The Wall Street Journal, other Blackstone employees were also hospitalized. Company personnel reportedly used Microsoft Teams and email to alert colleagues to the unfolding violence.
LePatner had been with Blackstone since 2014. In an interview with Leaders Magazine, she underscored the importance of diversity in leadership, stating, "As investors, our mission is to see around corners and recognize patterns. Having the most diverse perspectives around the table making decisions is critical to our investment process."
"She embodied the best of Blackstone," the company added in its statement. "Our prayers are with her husband, children and family."
