Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's appearance at NBA All-Star festivities at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles has reignited debate over the couple's public image, after broadcaster Megyn Kelly accused the Duchess of Sussex of "playing a role" and claimed she "doesn't know who she is."

Speaking on The Megyn Kelly Show, Kelly framed the courtside outing as emblematic of what she views as a contradiction between the couple's stated desire for privacy and their continued presence at high-profile events. "She recently attended an NBA game and, because she doesn't really like publicity, she sat courtside," Kelly said, a line that quickly circulated online.

The scrutiny intensified around a brief moment captured on video. In the clip, described by OK!, Harry appears to look away from the camera until Meghan touches his arm, prompting him to wave before turning away again. Kelly offered her own interpretation of the exchange, saying: "You can't miss the, 'Darling, this is the whole reason we're here... Look into the d--- camera and get me my shot. If you're not looking, then they're not looking at me,'" before adding, "That's really what she is saying there."

Kelly's guest, columnist Maureen Callahan, examined the slowed-down footage and focused on Harry's expression. "When you slow it down and you look at the minute he looks straight at the camera, there is a micro pause and his eyes look like he could kill," Callahan said. She added: "He looks like he doesn't want to be there and he doesn't want to be engaging with the media."

The commentary reflects a broader pattern in coverage of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and relocated to California. While the couple has cited media intrusion and security concerns as factors in their decision, they have continued to appear at public events tied to entertainment, philanthropy and business ventures.

Kelly broadened her critique beyond the basketball game. "If you put yourself out into the public sphere as a public figure... You have to accept that this is part of the deal... You really do have to know who you are to be able to handle this," she said. "And I think that is part of the problem with this woman. She doesn't know who she is at all."

The discussion also touched on Harry's recent testimony in the United Kingdom in his legal battle against the publisher of the Daily Mail over alleged unlawful information gathering. Harry has previously described press coverage as causing "misery" for Meghan. Kelly countered that view, arguing: "They made her an international star. They loved her in the beginning," adding that Harry "only started to get upset when she started to behave badly, and they wrote about that too."

In one of her sharper remarks, Kelly said: "I think her problem is she thought that this level of fame and a power marriage would fill the hole, but nothing is going to fill that hole," describing it as "a black hole of identity inside."

Alongside the podcast commentary, anonymous sourcing has portrayed a different dynamic in the couple's private life. One unnamed source claimed Harry has embraced domestic routines in Montecito, preferring "school drop-offs and beach days" with their children, Archie and Lilibet. "Harry has completely recalibrated his priorities," the source said. "In many ways, he is 100 percent a house husband, and he is comfortable with that." The same source added: "He genuinely dislikes the Hollywood circuit," and would "much rather be at home in Montecito."
