China will still be experiencing bad weather this week with most parts of the country still in a four-level color-coded weather warning due to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. The color red signifies severe, then orange, yellow, and blue.
The continuous heavy rain in most parts of China on Tuesday affects thousands of people. Rescuers evacuated the residents in Northwest China’s Gansu Province, Wenxian County. Rainstorms caused the heavy traffic and road disruption to the surrounding county and flooded the lower lands.
Based on the report of the National Meteorological Center, Jiangsu, Hubei, and Sichuan would experience continuous heavy rainfall from Thursday through Sunday. While on some areas in neighboring provinces will experience thunderstorms.
According to the Ministry of Water Resources, the heavy rainfall causes economic loss. The State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters said that the affected provinces from Wednesday to Thursday are Shandong, Anhui, Jiangsu, and Jilian provinces. Jiangsu, Anhui, Caolaoji, and Defangzha are the most damaged provinces.
Last Wednesday, the storm struck 48 cities including the districts in Shandong and Sichuan with 254,300 people affected. Damaged properties include 46 houses and a total of 8,360 hectares of crop. There is an estimated 733 million yuan or $111 million economic loses. No missing people or deaths recorded.
Ministry of Water Resources and the State Flood and Drought Relief Headquarters are working for hand in hand monitoring the condition closely and preparing for the continuous rainfall.
The China Railway Chengdu Group said that railway authorities are also doing their part. They closed the Baoji-Chengdu Railway that connects Shaanxi and Baoji with Sichuan and Chengdu because as the water rises in the river can threaten the safety of the passengers.
Local authorities are vigilant to warn people to reduce their outdoor activities and they should take extra precautions against flash floods, landslides, an flooding.
