Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for appropriate measures and greater efforts in combating the problem of poverty in China.
Xi also allegedly gave urgent instruction on the work of Bijie Trial Zone that is located in the southwest of China's Guizhou province. This is in his capacity as the Communist Party of China Central Committee General Secretary and Central Military Commission Chairman.
"Over the past 30 years, under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee and with support across all walks of life, significant changes have taken place in Bijie Trial Zone as it has become a model of the country's poverty alleviation drive," Xi said.
With 2020 as the target year for the nation's timetable in creating a moderately prosperous society, Xi emphasized the need for China to win the battle against poverty in a timely manner. He also called on for the maximum usage of prime resources by properly allocating it to where it should be.
When 2017 ended, China had a population of 30.64 million poor residents. Despite the alarming increase in the population, China is still dead-set in eradicating absolute power by 2020. This means around 10-million every year.
"After 2020, the regional development should dovetail with the strategy of rural revitalization with a far-sighted and preemptive approach," Xi said.
During a meeting with the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Xi cited three tough battles that can help address the problems of poverty.
Xi said about Decisive Progress, Innovative Approach and Global Good in ironing out the country's problem on poverty. Also, during a speech, Xi said that he was able to lift 68-million individuals from poverty in the last five years.
"We will work to foster local industries, create new jobs, relocate residents in poor areas and strengthen aid to the aged, the disabled and people who are seriously ill," Xi said.
Meanwhile, China needs to help 30-million of its poor people to alleviate poverty in the next three years. Also, China's poverty rate has dropped from 10.2 percent in 2012 to 3.1 percent in 2017. China was also the first country to have completed the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.
For his part, State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development Director Liu Yongfu said that poverty relief task was still difficult to achieve. Liu added that he is more particular about the quality of services.
"The work will shift to areas hit the hardest by poverty, put more emphasis on quality, and be more targeted and precise," Liu said.
