Samsung takes a shot at Apple in a new YouTube ad, this time poking fun at iPhone X's weak download speed.
The tech world is no stranger to the Korean company taking a jab at the Cupertino-based tech giant, and vice versa. They do this through their respective product ad placements. It has been going on for years already and it looks like it will never come to a stop.
In its latest ad campaign, Samsung sheds light on its rival's newest offering, the iPhone X, and how it fails in certain areas.
The clip, which is titled "Ingenius: Speed," clearly pokes fun at the premium smartphone's lack of the Gigabit LTE support.
The scene shown in the ad is a typical occurrence inside an Apple Store. There's a potential customer, probably looking to purchase an iPhone X. She is approached by an Apple employee who happens to know her personally.
It appears that the customer knows some serious issues about the product and confronted the store attendant about it.
"...the 10 (X) doesn't have the fastest download speed," the customer told the employee who retorted back with a simple "but it is faster than the iPhone 8."
"But the download speeds aren't faster than the Galaxy S9," she insisted and went on to say, in a rather satiric tone, "But I know that it is the 'smartphone of the future.'"
The remarks leave the employee both perplexed and annoyed. He knows exactly that everything she said is true.
Instead of trying to counter what she said and highlight the selling points of his product, the Apple employee just fell silent.
Samsung then made a direct statement, advising smartphone users to just "upgrade to Galaxy."
On paper, the iPhone X does have a slower LTE download speeds as compared to the latest Samsung Galaxy phones like the Note8, the S8, and the S9.
According to GSM Arena, the difference in the download is twice faster in Samsung at around 100Mbps download whereas iPhone X only peaks at 50 Mbps. Even the upload speeds are reported at the same rate.
As soon as the ad came out, a lot of tech pundits were either agreeable to the message or against it. Nevertheless, Samsung's prime goal is to get people's attention. Love it or hate it, it's quite clear that the message did come across. It is also quite successful in showing to the people the truth about the relatively expensive handheld device. Although, Samsung does have its own fair share of shortcomings when it comes to their products.
It is expected that the "Ingenius" series will continue to go on for some time.
